This is typical Kerala mango curry (kadi )which is delicious with rice as well as rotis. This is khatta meetha (sweet and sour) curry. This will suffice for a family of four.
- 2 ripe mangos
- 500 ml water
- Beaten curd 500 ml (sour curd preferable)
- Coconut half
- turmeric powder, Chilli powder,(half tsp each)
- Mustard seeds,(half tsp)
- fenugrek seeds ( methi seeds)
- 3 green chillies,
- cummin seeds (jeera)
- Curry leaves (Kadipatha)
- salt to taste
Cut each mango into 2 big pieces after removing the skin and add the rest with the seed. Add water to this along with turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt. Allow to boil for 5 to 10 minutes
Grind coconut along with green chillies and jeera to a paste. Add this paste to the above mixture of mangoes and boil for two minutes. Put off the gas and keep aside to cool.
Beat the curd without water. Add this to the above cool mixture and keep mixing thoroughly. Next heat this for about a minute by continuously stirring. If you do not stir continuously it will break into curd and whey.
Heat 2 tabsp of oil in a pan . Splutter mustard seeds and methi seeds . Add curry leaves to this and switch off the flame.Add this to to the mango curry. The delicious Kerala mango curry is ready.
